1. Working principle of dissolved oxygen analyzer
The oxygen content in water can fully demonstrate the degree of self purification of water. For biological treatment plants using activated sludge, it is crucial to understand the oxygen content in the aeration tank. An increase in dissolved oxygen in the water promotes biological activities other than anaerobic microorganisms, thereby removing volatile substances and ions that are easily oxidized naturally, and purifying the water.The dissolved oxygen in water is generally measured by electrochemical method.

Oxygen can dissolve in water, and its solubility depends on temperature, total and partial pressure on the water surface, and the salts dissolved in the water. The higher the atmospheric pressure, the greater the ability of water to dissolve oxygen.The oxygen measurement sensor consists of a cathode (usually made of gold and platinum), a current carrying counter electrode (silver), and a reference electrode (silver) without current. The electrode is immersed in electrolytes such as KCl and KOH. The sensor is covered with a diaphragm, which separates the electrode and electrolyte from the measured liquid. Only dissolved gases can penetrate the diaphragm, thus protecting the sensor from electrolyte leakage and preventing contamination and poisoning caused by foreign substances.

Applying a polarization voltage between the counter electrode and the cathode, if the measuring element is immersed in water with dissolved oxygen, oxygen will diffuse through the membrane, and oxygen molecules appearing on the cathode (excess electrons) will be reduced to hydroxide ions [OH -]. Electrochemical equivalent silver chloride precipitates on the counter electrode (electron deficient). For each oxygen molecule, the cathode releases 4 electrons and the counter electrode accepts electrons, forming a current of 4Ag+4Cl -=4AgCl+4e -. The current is proportional to the oxygen partial pressure of the measured water. This signal, together with the temperature signal measured by the thermal resistance on the sensor, is sent to the transmitter. The oxygen content in the water is calculated using the relationship curve between the oxygen content, oxygen partial pressure and temperature stored in the sensor, and then converted into standard signal output. The function of a reference electrode is to determine the cathodic potential.

2. Characteristics of dissolved oxygen analyzer
The dissolved oxygen meter has the characteristics of easy installation, long calibration cycle (3-4 months), insensitivity to other substances, and can monitor the use of electrolyte in the coating and probe. Generally, the electrolyte and coating are replaced every one to three years.

3. Installation and maintenance of dissolved oxygen analyzer
The dissolved oxygen analyzer generally adopts immersion installation, and it should be noted that it is generally best to use the original installation bracket from the factory. The installation bracket provided by the manufacturer is made of stainless steel and comes with an adjustable steel wire rope. By adjusting the length of the steel wire rope, the immersion depth of the sensor can be changed. The guide tube on the bracket ensures that the sensor is always in a vertical position. The bracket part is specially designed to transmit water surface fluctuations to the immersion tube, causing slight vibrations in the immersion tube and creating an additional cleaning effect on the surface of the probe through the immersion tube.

　　Some users, in order to reduce investment, make their own installation brackets. Although they can also be used, they should pay attention to ensuring the sealing between the immersion tube and the sensor. If the sealing is not tight and water seeps in, the connection between the dedicated cable and the sensor will be soaked in water for a long time, which can easily cause damage to the sensor; Some even do not make installation brackets and directly throw the sensor into the water, which will create a large tension between the sensor and the cable, making the sensor more prone to damage.

Dissolved oxygen probes should be gently cleaned with water every week. If the coating is damaged, it should be replaced in a timely manner. If the electrolyte is contaminated, it should also be replaced in a timely manner. When the water contains H2S NH3 、 Compounds such as benzene or phenol can cause damage to the film coating. In such situations, it is necessary to frequently replace the film head. To judge the quality of the electrodes in the probe, simply look at the color. The reference electrode should be black gray, the cathode (gold electrode) should be yellow, and the counter electrode must be shiny, otherwise it should be cleaned or regenerated.
